In Flight of The Future - Past, students will learn about the challenges of creating a stable and efficient flying model. Emphasis will be on stability and control using ground adjustable aerodynamic surfaces (using model plans from the 1940’s) instead of radio controlled electronics (drones).
Concepts of aerodynamics, physical forces, and structural integrity will be applied to a basic glider, then, new model aircraft will be built demonstrating iterations of these concepts to produce desired flight profiles.
Foam and balsa wood components will be cut with laser cutter and/or hot wire for the basic glider. Thin wall aluminum tubing and 3d printed parts (rubber powered propeller, wing saddles) may be used in later iterations.
