Special instructions for chromebook users:

  1. Follow the instructions here in order to enable the running of Linux apps on the chrome book.
  2. Download the 'Linux' version of processing from the website above
  3. Move the downloaded file "ends in tgz" into the Linux folder of the chromebook.
  4. You will have to unzip the tgz file, instructions can be found here (https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-unzip-files-on-chromebook)

Making at Home

Purpose: Wrap up the term by doing some hand-prototyping of the robot ideas we have brainstormed.  Figure out and document home-making methodologies.

Description: The ideas in this studio are too strong to give up on entirely. In this assignment students will collect resources around there home in order to hand-prototype their ideas. 

Materials: We will find out together.

Instructions:

Part 1: Scavenger Hunt. First everyone will collect a series of objects that could prove useful for constructing robot prototypes. Perhaps you have marbles or dominoes, legos, tape, paper, cardboard cereal boxes. There are many possibilities so take time to find anything and everything that you could use.

Animal, Vegetable, Material

Purpose: Practice modeling different subjects using Clayxels + Unity

Description: Use the Clayxels prototyping tool to create several different kinds of objects. 

Materials: Computer + Unity 3D + Clayxels.unitypackage

Instructions

  • Open clayxels.unitypackage and import the required assets into a blank unity project
  • Create an empty GameObject and assign the Clayxels material
  • Use the "Add Solid" button to add blocks to your model
  • Sculpt 3 objects based on the prompts
    1. An animal
    2. A vegetable (or plant)
    3. An object
  • Be sure to take care and divide your objects into different pieces to make modeling easier.  Then assign colors using the clayxels tool
  • There is a video recording in google classroom with details on using the clayxels editor

Deliverables:

This assignment will take several days and deliverables will consist of blog posts as the models develop.
