(2B) Living on Mars

Flower

Chase Trinklein

After rigorous time of work and dedication to our flower, Jacob and I were able to get the flower to the stage that the LED light was working and everything was finished except for the flower being able to open and close.  We used rhino to design the box which ened up being the base and fusion to design the colar that turned into the flower petals.  Then we used arduino to progam our arduino uno with the commands it needed to perform all the actions the flower was made to perform but in the end result the flower didn't open and close.

Last week in Nuvu, my team and I truly capitalized on the time we had to help finalize all aspects of our project. I made sure that was able to formulate and then finalize our pill press that we could use to make our algae pills.  I then proceeded to make the drying racks needed in order to dry our algae for the pill making process by formulating it in rhino and then laser cutting it.  Some of the key design challenges that we faced is not having the ideal materials we needed in order to finish the acrylic boxes to store the algae.  Also we had challenges in making sure that the pill press would be able to work and be made for ease of use.  The next we planned to prepare for exhibition night.

Last week's Inovations

Chase Trinklein

Throughout the past week in Nuvu, Alyssa and I have strived to make sufficient and convenient medical needs that can be sustained on mars. Alyssa and I have been working diligently on our first prototype for our medicine sorter, which was our initial idea in which we started to create and innovate with.  We started the week making the basis for which was to be our prototype but quickly realized some fatal flaws in the process of making this medicine sorter.  The first flaw that we came in contact with was the fact that our idea though a very much needed idea was not something unique with it's own special qualities.  Also, we found that we were faced with the challenge of having an RGB color sorter which is a key component in sorting different color pills. So we decided to finish out our prototype and move to our overall favorite idea that would best suit the mars environment.  This idea is an emergency first aid kit specially adapted to the mars environment. So in the oncoming week, we plan to have completed our research on the components needed to combat the different elements and situations present in the mars environment and overall make a successful medicine kit.
